Challenge your path to growth. Try something NEW. It’s a great way to learn new things, to shift energy and empower yourself!

“Something is going to come out of this. Something New. This can end you up in a whole new place–a better place, a much more open place.”                                   -Pema Chodron

With the New Year I thought it would be fulfilling to begin by learning or trying something, anything NEW each day. Each week I am going to post my findings, so then you can learn new things along with me. Feel free to post NEW things you have enjoyed learning too! It should be fun!!

Here we go! I am going to be adding more and more, so I am not going to date them because there will be lots to learn. Look for my posts marked 365 for additional things to learn.

bEEbFCHFUN FACT: In chatting with my sister-in-law I learned there is a jellyfish called, “The Immortal Jellyfish” that when it gets scared, its defense mechanism literally reverts and transforms it back into its infant state. It can become “immortal” if the cycle happens over and over again.

She had a small, square tattooed on her wrist to remind her that “I am alive.”        What could you do to remember this precious gift of life? We are each given daily gifts of life. Live them.

Morning-StretchSTRETCH! “Our culture places a premium on strength and power and as a result anything that has to do with mobility or stability feels like a waste of time. But the opposite is true. Having a full range of motion actually helps you achieve better results when you perform your regular workouts. Loosening  tight and overworked muscles can improve your posture, give you more toned thighs and even make it easier to flatten your abs.” -David Reavy Founder of React Physical Therapy

Make the holidays Merry & Bright

3345cf0c2497942789aed65b4caa7443

The holidays are a time where we have moments of stress and joy!! Like the darling apron I gave my mother-in-law, “Desserts” is “Stressed” backwards. Funny, right!!  For a fun-filled holiday we have to enjoy the good and the bad, so I am going to do my best to give you some great ideas to make your holidays a little more Merry and Bright. EnJOY!

Breakout of the USUAL: During the holidays try something new–if your family has never gone tubing, ice skating or caroling, a bonfire on the beach, fed the homeless or made homemade cards–maybe try it! Shake it up & do the unusual.  Last year we tried snowshoeing and made a great memory.

Keep a stash on hand: I know I am always looking for movies, stocking stuffers, or little gifts last minute to give to a neighbor or friend I forgot. If you have a stash on hand, you will have less worry.

Keep it casual and cozy: Many people would tell you to overdress for any occasion during the holiday, but I would say keep it casually nice and cozy. Where we live it is cold!! Recently we went with my extended family to a performance that was a dressy occasion & everyone kept reminding me, “dress up,” but I used my common sense & went warm. All night everyone was wishing they had dressed warmer.  Tips: Make Nice scarves and hats your new best friends–they dress up any outfit and keep you warm during the holidays. Also, keep it simple–black with a little sparkle fits any occasion.

Set the mood: I think candles and fresh scents stir the senses and make the holidays even better. Where we live it now gets dark around 5pm. Yikes. I begin to get tired even earlier and the darkness seems to zap energy. With twinkling lights, candles and fresh aroma’s of citrus and cinnamon simmering on the stove, the holidays are a little more cozy and relaxed.  Here is a link to some stove top recipes  http://www.spendwithpennies.com/homemade-air-fresheners/

Stop, drop and stretch: Even a little exercise is better than nothing. Doing simple stretches moves your body and keeps the healthy endorphins pumping through your body. This will help with any holiday stress. Here are some simple stretches from Real Simple http://www.realsimple.com/health/fitness-exercise/stretching-yoga/stretching-exercises

A little more activity: While you are out and about, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park a little farther from the stores and enjoy a good snow shovel for a friend or family member.

Prepare and avoid the last minute low-down: If you wait till last minute you will begin to feel more pressure, stress and it will leave you feeling low. If you begin to prepare now for gift giving, card creating and overall holiday cheer—everything will be brighter. Make a list of friends and family that you want to send cards or gifts–check it twice. Decide how much you want to spend this holiday season & don’t overspend [this will leave you down after the holidays]. Remember: giving a gift from the heart (homemade cards, knit gift bags, personal photos, etc) are treasured and won’t cost you as much.

You can say NO: There will be many work parties, family, friend, neighborhood parties and events to attend. If you sit down with your family before the hustle and bustle of the season & make a list of the things you want to do for the holidays, you will see the things most important to those you love. So, when invites come, you know what you can and cannot do with the time you have during the holiday season. Remember,  “Holidays” means “Holy days”–so keep each day special with those you love. Cherish each moment.

Embrace the holiday spirit: Have a focus on the meaning of the season–giving, being like Jesus, spending time with family. Create special traditions to truly embrace the holiday season—see my other posts on traditions. Go out and pick an angel off an angel tree & wrap up the spirit of giving. Purchase a special book on the nativity or have a special night where you watch it with your family. Make the season memorable.

Remember this key thing—what do your children really want for Christmas? This will eliminate many of the $$ stress. According to child experts, what children really want more than anything else during the holidays are: 1. Relaxed and loving time with family  2. Realistic expectations about gifts  3. An evenly paced holiday season  4. Family traditions   taken from http://counseling.eku.edu/dealing-holiday-stress-0

Just Breathe: Take a moment and take a breath. When you are feeling overwhelmed by the foods you need to bake or the presents you need to make—take a breath.

Give the gift of gratitude: Give people what they truly need–praise, appreciation and the gift of a grateful heart. Call, Email, Write cards to those you love and include something you love about them.

Hope these ideas help you make your holidays a little more Merry & Bright

Love and Peace to you  -H

belief

I am blessed beyond belief. -Hunter Hayes     I have a strong belief that there is a God or Higher Power. I think that if you have a strong belief in that, then you won’t feel alone in life and you will feel you can get through anything.  -Alana Stewart     Always believe something wonderful is about to happen.    I would rather have a mind opened by wonder than one closed by belief. -Gerry Spence     Everything is possible for him who believes.

Hello. I don’t know about you, but I have been seeking good things for a very long time, so any time I am soul stirred or find myself wanting to understand the world better, I look to the sky. the stars, the deeper beauty.

I recently heard about Oprah’s latest project, BELIEF. Some of you may love Oprah or not, but I don’t think anyone would argue that she has done a lot of good in the world. So, when I saw her article about her “love note to viewers”—a special television series that took three years to make, 6 continents to visit, 800 total hours of footage, 28 languages to create the 7 hour series, I was interested.

BELIEF began last night and I wanted to see the stories, the depth, the questions, the answers of different religions, different people on their own spiritual quest in different parts of the world. It was just that, an hour of 4 different peoples stories about coming of age, making it through struggle, seeking through personal pilgrimage and a 100 mile journey to save a 50,000 year old tribal religion. The cinematography was beautiful, the stories captured, the wisdom heard.

If you are interested in seeing different religions from all around the world, hearing heart felt personal stories of others who are seeking, then you may want to turn the series on. It is on this week on Oprah’s channel OWN. I heard or read somewhere that Oprah spent her own money on the project because she believed so strongly in it. I think she wanted to give the world a precious gift to the world. Thanks Oprah.

Here is a little glimpse of the series…take a look.

Thank you Wayne

get-your-class-creating-beautiful-word-clouds-using-tagxedo-16-638I know there are many posts about Wayne Dyer dying, but I wanted to say Thank you. I know he is listening and seeing all the well wishes, the blessings, the tears, the memories, the blessed gifts of thanks and I need to be among the congregation that sings praise and appreciation. Thank you Wayne.

I had not heard of Wayne Dyer until I received a white elephant gift during a Christmas auction. It was suppose to be a joke, but to me I was willing to watch a Dvd called “Inspiration”  Why not?? I was a seeker and this sounded amazing. That Dvd got me hooked on anything Wayne Dyer. I have LOVED everything he has done over the many years. I read his children’s books to my daughter as she has been growing, I was an avid “The Shift” dvd believer & shared it with many, I listened to his podcasts every single day and dreamed of going on a cruise with him.

He is light and who doesn’t want to learn all they can from someone like Wayne. Not to mention he lived in Hawaii.

Dr-Waine-Dyer-Quotes

What a gift to this world: Wayne’s life is full of goodness and gifts that he has shared with the world. He was known as the ‘Father of Motivation”, He did numerous PBS specials. He did a movie that he was so proud of he wished over 10 million people would see.  If you haven’t seen “The Shift”, which was later renamed, “From Ambition to Meaning,” I would suggest you see it. It is a great movie. He has also written 30+ books, including 5 children’s books.  His life has been a great gift.

I-am-realistic

Some fun facts you may not have known about Wayne: He is the father of 8. His favorite movies are Deja Vu by Henry Jaglom (said he had seen it about 50 times) and Brother Sun, Sister Moon, the story of St. Francis of Assisi (whom he truly admired). *taken from Gaiam interview    He has been on thousands of radio/talk shows, including The Tonight Show and Phil Donahue show, Oprah, Ellen (who was such a fan of his that she had him officiate her wedding).  He was born in Detroit.

10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace by Wayne:

#1 Have a mind that is open to everything and attached to nothing.  Your attachments are the source of all your problems. The need to be right, to possess someone or something, to win at all costs, to be viewed by others as superior—these are all attachments. The open mind resists these attachments and consequently experiences inner peace and success.

#2 Don’t die with your music still in you. That music that you hear inside of you urging you to take risks and follow your dreams is your intuitive connection to the purpose in your heart since birth.

#3 You can’t give away what you don’t have. By changing your inner thoughts to the higher frequencies of love, harmony, kindness, peace and joy, you’ll attract more of the same, and you’ll have those higher energies to give away.

#4 Embrace silence. Silence reduces fatigue and allows you to experience your own creative juices.

#5 Give up your personal history.

#6 You can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it. Your thoughts are the source of virtually everything in your life.

#7 There are no justified resentments. Anytime you are filled with resentment, you are turning the controls of your emotional life over to others to manipulate.

#8 Treat yourself as if you already are what you’d like to be. From thoughts to feelings to actions, they will react affirmatively when you stay inspired and get out in front of yourself in ways that are consistent with what you want to become…Whether you think this is possible or impossible, either way you’ll be right.

#9 Treasure your divinity. You are “a piece of the divine intelligence that supports everything.”

#10 Wisdom is avoiding all thoughts that weaken you.

BIG LEARNING:

Okay, so today I wanted to do a Big Learning post because I have been learning a lot!! It is very exciting. I have been down with a cold for a couple of days, so I have been reading and watching movies that stretch the mind. Wow!!So, for the next few weeks I will share what I have been learning from many different sources. But, today I want to share with you some key thoughts from —Pam Grout’s book Esquared [it’s really a tiny 2 (squared symbol), but I am not sure how to make it work on here] smile.

Pam’s book is a unique idea—Nine do-it-yourself energy experiments that prove your thoughts create your reality. What I have learned so far—I am okay, not great at using my energy powers. smile. smile.   Her premise, think about what you want & it will show up for you.[I am not going to share all the experiments, but I will give you a sample. You have to want to read the book] So, here is the first experiment: The Dude Abides: Basically what it says is, “There is an invisible energy force or field of infinite possibilities.” The experiment could be best described as an ultimatum. You are going to give the force exactly 48 hours to make its presence known. You’re going to demand a clear, unmistakable sign, something that cannot be written off as coincidence.     So, me and my crazy but faithful heart decided I would look for a red cardinal. Utah does not get Red Cardinal’s so I was really putting the experiment to the test!! A few days later my family got in on the game–My husband decided to look for a white feather & my daughter wanted to look for a white bracelet. The test was on!! I had started my red cardinal hunt a couple days earlier before my whole family got involved. My Red Cardinal never did show for a couple days, so on the third day I decided to continue looking for a red cardinal, but also added a blue feather into the mix. Another day passed and while I was in my car driving, I literally had the thought, I am definitely not very good at this test!! Right around the corner there was a sign that said, “Blue Raven” My heart jumped. That will do. A blue raven would have tons of blue feathers!! I had never seen that sign before even though I have driven that same road multiple times.  Within a few days, my daughter had a classmate who was wearing a white bracelet & my husband had saved a bird that had been hit on the road. He called me up…”remember how we were looking for white feathers…I just found all kinds of feathers.”

Try it yourself—put something out there and give yourself 48 hours to one week & see what you find!! Pam had some great thoughts to go along with this…“you do have to quit being so wishy-washy. Nobody in his or her right mind would call up Sears and say, “Oh, just send me something I like.”

“To effectively work these spiritual laws, you have to “get it” deep down in your bones that the Universe is bountiful and that, at all time, it has your back.”

picture-of-the-stack-of-books-I-have-to-read-for-graduate-school

Wow! We are amazing…Pam also made the following statement: Scientists now know the brain receives 400 billion bits of information each second. To give you some idea of just how much information this is: it would take nearly 600,000 average size books just to print 400 billion zeros. So, what do we do? We start screening. We start narrowing down. I’ll take that information over there…When all is said and done, we’re down to 2,000 bits of information each and every second. Our brains continually sift through the possibilities and pick which bits of information to “see” and believe. Out of sheer laziness, the stuff we choose to perceive—and make no mistake…it is a choice—it is the stuff we already know.

Brown_Dragonfly_Janie_Dubman.600Trying to receive or tune into the things you want in your life. Pam Grout liken’s consciousness to a giant skyscraper. I may be living on the second floor, but the “thing” I created with my thought is up on the 17th floor. Until I can get to the 17th floor, it appears that it is still missing, that I am still waiting.     Another great analogy is a television set. If you have cable, more than 100 channels are yours for the clicking. TiVo aside, you can only watch one channel at a time. When you’re watching, say, Modern Family, you’re chuckling at the antics of Cam, Mitchell, Phil and Gloria and you’re completely unaware of the other 99 (or more) channels. That’s why it’s really important to stay on the channel you want. Tune in to your intent.

Talking about trying to tune into something I wanted—Here is a great story that happened to me yesterday. I wasn’t feeling well, but my dog needed to go outside, so I walked him out onto our deck. I noticed a brown dragon fly circling the yard. I LOVE these beautiful, mysterious insects so I slowly walked out into the middle of the yard and said, “come play with me.” The dragon fly whirled above my head, flew around, came close, then out again, the natural rhythm of these creatures. I just followed it with my eyes and smiled as it came closer. I watched it for awhile and then went back inside. I left the door open for the natural breeze and bundled up on my couch. Within a minute I heard a noise right behind my head that sounded like a wrapper moving against the blinds behind me. I peeked over the couch edge & there was the dragon fly I had been with outside. It was now stuck behind the lip of my couch. I gently put my hand under its body & lifted it out about four inches & then it gently flew directly out the door. It was amazing. I couldn’t believe it. The exact dragon fly had followed me into the house & then knew right where to go once it wasn’t caught behind my couch (directly behind where I was sitting). I went back outside to make sure it was okay & it flew by me again. Amazing. Beautiful.

pondering-man

Reasons why we have a harder time receiving…here are a few of Pam’s thoughts.     1. We’re Really Not here: Not in this moment. If you are not really here [present], your mind is NOT available to do what you are asking it to do. You are operating out of old encrusted beliefs, beliefs you downloaded before your were five. Do you really want a five-year-old running your life?   2. We’ve named it difficult. We spend so much time talking about what doesn’t work that we miss the whole point: namely, that we have the power to create something that does.    3. We Stalk Negativity: What do we study? Disease, problems, disasters of the past. What do we prepare for? emergencies. We love to sink our teeth into problems and ask, “What’s wrong?” Once we begin to look for What’s Right, our lives begin spinning in unimaginably exciting new directions.  Every “wrong” thing has a flip side. Lack is the flip side of abundance. Sickness is the flip side of health. While living in the consciousness of space and time, you can only observe one side of the coin at a time. But it’s important to realize that the other side is just as real and that at any time, you can simply flip it over.

The reason 99.9 percent of your mind is devoted to things you don’t want is because that’s the world’s default setting, what it defines as normal. The world’s default setting sees news about floods and earthquakes, hears stories about your second cousin’s epilepsy, and says, “See what did I tell you?”

The only thing you need to do is devote your mind ONLY to things you want.

“The greatest discovery and development of the coming years will be along spiritual lines. Here is a force which history clearly teaches has been the greatest power in the development of man and history, and yet we have been merely playing with it and have never seriously studied it as we have physical forces. Some day people will learn that material things do not bring happiness and are of little use in making men and women creative and powerful. Then the scientists of the world will turn their laboratories over to the study of the spiritual forces. When this day comes, the world will see more advancement in one generation than it has in the past four.”  -Charles Proteus Steinmetz, inventor of the alternating-current motor

Thanks Pam Grout for your ideas, thoughts and directions.

P.S. I believe Pam has a wordpress blog–check it out. She always shares great stuff.

Well, I hope this post will help you see how powerful your mind is, how important your thoughts and intentions can be. We have a greater potential than we possibly know. We have a spirit that tunes in to the energies all around us. We have endless possibilities within us. I believe we are creators, spiritual beings trying to find our way, to see our purpose and constantly reaching higher to something greater than us all. Peace to you today.

I hope you found some big learning within this post. Best wishes for your life.

Easter Ideas

Happy Easter! Desktop BackgroundSpring has sprung and Easter is less than a week away, so I thought I would share some of our favorite Easter traditions that we like to do at our house…

looking_for_love_in_a_stack_of_booksEaster books at our house: Benjamin’s box is a great little Easter activity you can enjoy with the whole family.  It is the story of the resurrection eggs. One year we decorated paper, numbered eggs, that had little images & we read them along with Benjamin’s box. Here is a link to the eggs to color & you can find the book on Amazon.  Printable eggs: http://teachingheart.net/blog/2011/03/resurrection-eggs-idea-with-printables/

We also have the sweet tale of The Story of the Easter Robin. Another great Easter read.

legend-of-the-sand-dollar-april-wietreckiI also love the book, The Legend of the Sand Dollar, which I accompanied with a wonderful Easter tradition and activity. This year I bought a bunch of actual sand dollars (large and small) and put them in small plastic bag, tied with a ribbon & gave them with the above poem. Its very neat and symbolic. You can find a variety of versions and styles of this poem–just google & find one you like. Make sure you have at least a couple shells, so you can break one & shake out the beautiful white birds that go along with the poem. It is really neat.

Res-Eggs-2014-FUn Easter Activity that has some spirit, Resurrection Eggs–This year we gathered all the cousins around and did the “Resurrection Eggs” by Family Life. I have made my own, did the sweet story of Benjamin’s Box, so I thought I would give the actual kit a try. It was very well done. I had each of the young kids in the family open an egg & then had their parent help them read their part of the story of Christ. It was wonderful to see family gathered around opening eggs that contained a donkey, crown of thorns, nails…and then reading a scripture and part of the meaningful story. It was very sweet.

Doodle-EggsSharpie Eggs—just doodle, had names, add some sharpie colors and have fun doodling. We did this last year and it was so fun to just be creative. You can do them on hard boiled eggs OR I just tried it on plastic eggs & it works too! Just get creative.

eggs11Egg everything—deviled eggs, egg salad sandwiches…the above pic was from sarahscoop.com, which has some good ideas & I love the colored deviled eggs

28e2eb51_imageBright Night Easter Egg Hunt–Last year we did a really fun glow-in-the dark easter egg hunt. You just put glow sticks bent inside the eggs & candy…hide. It was so fun to see glowing eggs all over the yard. The kids LOVED it!!

eastereggsFun Twists on Easter Egg Hunts–I LOVED the idea my Mom did–she put coupons in her eggs that were hidden, so when the kids opened them, they got a “game night” with Grandma & Grandpa, “Ice cream dates”, “Breakfast date”—it was darling & the kids loved it.  We also did an “adult egg hunt” where all the kids hid the eggs & the adults had to find them. That was fun to see all the adults running.  In my “adult eggs” I wrote funny fortunes and great quotes, along with candy. You also definitely have to have a “golden egg” which is the special egg that awards someone either a special prize or a prize of money inside.  My daughter made special eggs for each one of her cousins & she used a label maker to put their names on the outside, so then each kid while they were hunting had to look for their special egg from her. Inside she wrote them a little happy easter note with candy she picked out special for them.

IMG_0395Snowball bunnies & Easter treats–Traditionally we make “Snowball Bunnies” because I did one as a kid, so we continued on the tradition. Along with the snowball bunnies, I found some other cute ideas that we may try this year. So many creative ideas out there. The Legacy of your Life

IMG_0617Over this past weekend I ventured down to southern Utah to an area with more than 500 petroglyphs dated as far as 8,000 years ago. Wow! As my little family walked the gravel paths and found large rocks over 10 feet wide etched with what seemed to be life time lines, we were in ah. The primitive images of birds, animals, people walking, circles and circles that looked like labyrinths, it made us wonder about the people who drew the images. You wondered about their life out in the middle of nowhere, the heat, the rock ledges, the solitude, what their life was like, what they dreamed of, what they did day in and day out, what their family was like, the things they held precious…

IMG_0639I then thought about my own life and the legacy I will leave. Will it be a legacy of faith, goodness, light, love? Will I be remembered as someone who was a good mother, a supportive, loving wife. Will I be remembered as someone who tried things, who was brave and adventurous, or someone who didn’t risk, who stayed safe. For some reason lately I have been needing to step out of my usual, to try new things, to venture beyond my limitations, so I have been risking more, I have been trying to venture more. This year has brought discomfort with having to go to dinner parties (not my favorite past time), putting my work out where people can reject it (entered some visual work into a contest & gala–that was a couple of tough situations), but I have also tried playing more, having more adventure—hence my idea of finding indian ruins in the desert.

There is only so much life you can live if you stay within the lines, if you walk in only comfortable shoes, if you don’t go beyond and find more within yourself. So, the last couple of weeks I have been writing down things I have tried, things I have done, things I have accomplished, things I am proud of within the years of my life…small things, big things, adventurous things. Things that define who I am and the life I have led so far. It is fun to see the details, the wins, the growth, the learning. It is also fun to create new lists of things you want to do, to accomplish, to dream.

So, with that in mind, I challenge you to read other people’s life lists, bucket lists, to do’s of the year & create your own wish lists, life lists & begin one by one. Step by step, to see yourself go beyond, one little step at a time. Life is good. Life is NOW. Your legacy is written with what you do every single day. Lessons learned from the movie Elvis & Anabelle

6d80bfe2699a4737dd077805b891cde7Probably many of you have never heard of this movie, but I came across it on Amazon after watching another quirky movie, My Sassy Girl (which I will do some lessons for that next). I did not know anything about this movie, so I was definitely surprised by different parts. I don’t want to spoil the movie for you, so just watch and learn.

I will say, this movie definitely brought up some personal feelings regarding loved ones and suicide, depression…I have had people throughout my life who have suffered from depression and on a couple of occasions had people close to me at  serious tipping points. It is very Scary, emotional stuff, so this movie had moments that definitely hit home for me.

The opening scene of this movie was almost like a horror film with embalming fluid, a hearse, the run down funeral home. But with any movie you have the dark moments followed by the light, and thank heavens for that balance. The movie was a journey seeing the characters, their lives, their personal struggles and their need to break free from the world they were living in.

film1You have Elvis, his mother had committed suicide on Christmas day, he lived with his father who had been running a funeral home, but with a recent accident was unable to, so Elvis has been taking over without anyone knowing. Elvis loves his father very much and there is a very sweet bond between these two characters.  On a side note, Max Minghella (the actor that played Elvis) was truly drawn to this role because of the relationship between the father and son. Very sweet.

-Elvis-Anabelle-Movie-stills-blake-lively-15143475-399-268You have Annabelle, pageant queen, mother loves her but has driven Annabelle’s whole life to revolve around winning pageants, smiling, being pretty. Annabelle plays the part, but inside she is dying on a personal level.

Lessons learned:

0The life lessons of mortality–why? Why do I have this life? You could see this multiple times within this movie. You could see the characters faces wondering, why?      I think that is a very typical life question that we all wonder at different points within our lives. I think this question often comes from the perspective we see, the outward existence, a heart that is seeking to understand certain things, the mystery, the confusion, the dark, the light. You can ask this question when you are struggling, but this question can also come up when you feel you don’t deserve all you have. It is an ongoing lesson.

pdvd1105Cherished time is so important: We all seem to spin each day in the same direction and often find it hard to slow down and be present with those we love so dearly. Time is precious & this movie reminded me how each moment needs to be cherished. Elvis enjoyed reading every night to his father and their friendship and love was truly shared. I hope we all strive to have close relationships that we can hold and cherish always.

film3See life as a gift filled with miracles: At one point in the movie Annabelle runs away from her glamorous life to find solitude in the questions, the mystery of life. She begins to see life as a gift. She noticed the sunsets, the starry nights, she planted a garden to believe miracles would want to grown, even in bad dirt. She gets determined to plant something & buys bags of seed, starts up the tractor that has not been used in a very long time, determined to believe in miracles. Charlie (Elvis’ dad) and Elvis don’t believe what she is doing. They think she is wasting her time. She does not tell either of them what she is planting.

tumblr_lj0x9pakPZ1qckv4ko1_500_largeSee life with a new perspective: Annabelle realizes that for every terrible tragedy that happens in the world, there is always something equally miraculous that grows from it.  Can you believe that gift within your own life? Can you begin to see that when something tragic happens, something good from it will grow?

54089bf0c2f9defc261039df6f3bcc98Live this day: Annabelle is chased off the farm. She begins to think of her time at the funeral home—painting, tilling the fields, planting seeds, investing in other people and evaluates where she has been in her life and realized that she has not ever truly lived one day for herself.     Do you ever feel like this? Feel like you are always on a rotating cycle of doing dishes, homework, the same job, the same cycle? Maybe you need a little thing to do today that is yours. Make a list of a few things you would like to do in the next month—it doesnt have to be big things. Begin with little things: Go on a walk, Read 15 minutes a day, listen to an audio book on your way to work, doodle something, learn about something on youtube…just begin to live this day doing something small that means something to you. Make it your own!

tumblr_lno9kbinsp1qdssiwo1_500Don’t focus on the negative: Elvis is stuck in depressing thoughts, wondering what happened to his mother, feeling overwhelmed trying to run the funeral home & take care of his dad, not being able to pursue his own dreams…Annabelle tells Elvis if he keeps thinking his depressing thoughts, then he will have a depressing life.      How are your thoughts? What do you focus on in your life? When you talk out loud, what are you saying to others? How do you feel inside? You can feel if you are feeling negative or positive—it is pretty easy to tell. Be aware and focus on the good things within your life.

img-thing-1Good question: Annabelle asked Elvis…If you could do one thing in the whole wide world, what would it be???       Ask yourself that question. Nothing is being held from you…what would you want to do??

The movie does have some depressing moments where the two main characters are apart, depressed, wishing to be free of this world, the misunderstandings, the media, the loneliness…until one last miracle shines through in the sweet ending.
