Go BIG by just BEGINNING

Decorative-Beautiful-Oak-Garden-Doors“Big doors swing on little hinges.”  -W Clement Stone

I love the idea of how little things can make big things happen. Whether it is just little by little every day. One little step toward a bigger goal. One step in the right direction of your dreams. It all begins with a little motivation, a little momentum, a little action.

Think of something you would like to do & think of something small you can do today & then something small tomorrow…and then…you are accomplishing big goals with little steps.

Here are a few tips and tricks:

Here is a video link of one woman & how she uses a door & sticky notes to move her in the right direction–try it out if it feels right to you.

Take it One day or One door at a time. Where will today lead?

2984029909_2cc0544caaTrue momentum will begin when we begin to have a few small wins!! Create a tiny step you can do today & begin there. Once you accomplish this one little thing—you will feel a sense of Win!! That will lead to another day to begin another small step and then another…you will feel the momentum pick up and you will be on your way.

See things differently

The new year is always a good time to come across anything that makes you smile, things that make you want to be creative, things that make you want to think outside of the box, to find a little inspiration in so many different places. I saw a new Coke ad over the weekend & was taken back by how creative and well done it was. It made me want to share—enjoy!!

A little inspiration and creativity to brighten your day, to help you look at things a little differently. Because if you don’t sometimes venture to see things differently–nothing will ever change.

New Coke Ads—LOVE IT!! Two AMAZING videos that make thinking differently memorable & AHH inspiring!

THINK DIFFERENT–Classic Apple Commercial. Always inspiring.

DREAM BIG I love big dreams, big ideas and the little places where inspiration and sparks begin. I LOVEd this ad that recently was put out by Dell. It is proof that big dreams can have small beginnings as long as someone is thinking differently to see the bigger picture.

To where dreams may begin…just loved the sentiment of this ad

I wanted to share a little story about following inspiration and continuing to follow it…Months ago I listened to a song called, Underwater, by Mika.  As I listened to this song I had a whirl of imagery, the images of a story that began to play in my mind. The music called to a part of me that wanted to create, so I sat back and enjoyed the inspiration, the flow, the beginning seed of a story. When the song was over, I instantly thought of the movie Mama Mia and how a writer took songs from Abba and weaved them into a story. I thought and wondered if Mika would have any other songs that could fit into a story. I did not know very much about Mika & wasn’t even sure if he had other songs, so I jumped on iTunes and the story came. Song by song I envisioned the scenes, the characters, what should happen, who was singing, on and on. It was a visual delight within my soul.

My mind began to want more and more, the passion began to take over as I needed to pursue costume ideas, see visuals of where this story should take place, piece the songs together and have the beginning seeds of a possible musical. I was creating for days.

WHAT WAS I THINKING began to set in & the usual gremlin thoughts tried to get in & make me question why I was wasting time on creating a musical. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?? A writer, let alone a screenplay writer…the thoughts whirled, but I just wanted to see where the story went, what would happen to the characters, I continued on. I created an outline with visuals of a nine act storyline & then didn’t know what to do. WHAT WAS I GOING TO DO?

I knew nothing would happen without Mika and any thoughts, permission or direction would go nowhere without getting in touch with him and finding out if there was any interest. I tried and tried to locate him. I even sent some info. to his fan club, hoping to get something to him, but to no avail.  [So, if anyone out there knows how to contact Mika or his managers–please pass it along. thanks]

I was at a standstill, unable to go forward, unsure why I had this inspiration drop into my lap & what was it meant to be?? I looked up to the heavens and said, “God, I am listening, creating, trying to put something out there, but I don’t know where to go from here.”  I put the idea aside.

Last week my daughter wanted to watch the movie Mama Mia (because it is one of her favorites & we had not seen it in awhile) & we enjoyed every minute.

My mind began to whirl again with ideas of getting in touch with the screenplay writer of Mamma Mia to see if she would have any insight or direction for my musical idea. Granted, my mind began again with thoughts of, why would she talk to you, she has written the largest grossing film in the UK (Mamma Mia) & has done numerous plays all over the UK. She doesn’t have time for you.

I carried on wondering how I would find her, if she would have the time…I emailed a couple of people I thought may know how to locate her & yesterday I received an email from her. Yay!!! It was like the best New Years present ever & yet she didn’t even know what I wanted. I sat and read everything I could find about this woman & was so inspired by her rags to riches story, so my hope was she would see my passion for an idea & help me in any direction.

I wrote her an email and shared with her my inspiration that came to me after hearing one song & asked her for any direction or advice she would be willing to share. She had been through every stage of creating, writing and putting together the unbelievable experience of Mamma Mia, so I knew it was a long shot that she would even reply, but I hoped.

I got her reply at 4 this morning!!! I am truly grateful to her and her guidance. I read her email to my husband & he said, “Wow, she is a woman who is paying it forward. She didn’t even have to help or respond. She could have just told you she was too busy.”  I am truly grateful for her advice and direction & will keep plugging along in the directions she has given me & hopefully this little idea will blossom.  If anything, this experience has shown me to never doubt or question, to follow feelings and desires, because that is where inspiration lives. Follow your dreams.

ImageSo, here is a little more inspiration–the amazing story of Catherine Johnson, the writer of Mamma Mia. Enjoy!!  part of an interview with the guardian.com

Catherine Johnson is downing an energy drink that promises to provide “energy, stamina, focus and drive”. But does she really need any more? The Bristol-based playwright went from being a tearaway teenager, expelled from school after a stand-off with the headmaster over a revealing top, to the author of Mamma Mia!, one of the most successful musicals ever. Johnson also wrote the screenplay for the film version, which became the highest-grossing British movie of all time.

It’s a career trajectory most writers could only dream of. Yet Johnson, 51, with a glossy, chestnut bob and a warm, open manner, says she still sometimes gets out of bed feeling like a failure. “Every time I start a new work, I feel a complete lack of confidence,” she says. “It must be because I’ve had less years of being a success than I had of being a failure. For a lot of my life, I felt a complete letdown.”

Johnson left school with little to sustain her but a couple of O-levels and a love of writing that had been encouraged by weekly visits, with her father, to the Bristol Old Vic. For years, it seemed that success as a writer was beyond her grasp. “Writing was the only thing I was good at,” she says, “but I also wanted to hang out with the bad boys. I had a good few years when I ran away from things and sometimes life ran away from me.” An early marriage ended in divorce; when another relationship broke up, she found herself a single mother in her 30s, barely able to afford nappies.

She was considering training to be a probation officer when another trip to the Bristol Old Vic – to see Jim Cartwright’s 1980s play Road, about northern working-class life – changed her life. “I suddenly realised I could write about people like me, living real, messy lives,” says Johnson. She rushed home and, within two weeks, had written Rag Doll, a play about child abuse in a West Country family. It won an award and went on to be a success at London’s Bush theatre. Other successes at the Bush followed. Then, in 1997, the playwright and director Terry Johnson, her sometime mentor, heard about a proposed musical based around the songs of Abba – and recommended Johnson to the show’s producer, Judy Craymer. Mamma Mia! was born.

You go Catherine!! Thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU.

When it is dark enough, look to the stars

ImageYou have all heard the thoughts, “When it is dark enough, you can see the stars.”  -Charles Austin Beard;   “It’s always darkest before the dawn.” -Proverb;   “To be a star, you must shine your own light, follow your own path, and don’t worry about the darkness, for that is when the stars shine brightest.”

I heard a thought the other day that continues to elicit this sentiment–that beautiful things are created in darkness. A baby grows and develops for months in darkness; a seed grows for days, weeks, months in complete darkness. Many ideas are created when things may seem dim. The best of who you are shows up when you are in a transition of some kind.

Here are some empowering stories that began as tragedy & turned into a light of hope.

ImageNothing but positive: by: Unknown

Read this, and let it really sink in… Then, choose how you start your day tomorrow…

Jerry is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, “If I were any better, I would be twins!” He was a unique manager because he had several waiters who had followed him around from restaurant to restaurant.

The reason the waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, I don’t get it! You can’t be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?” Jerry replied, “Each morning I wake up and say to myself, Jerry, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.

I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life.

“Yeah, right, it’s not that easy,” I protested. “Yes, it is,” Jerry said. “Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It’s your choice how you live life.”

I reflected on what Jerry said. Soon thereafter, I left the restaurant industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that Jerry did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business: he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gun point by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him. Luckily, Jerry was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma center. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body.

I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, “If I were any better, I’d be twins. Wanna see my scars?” I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place. “The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door,” Jerry replied. “Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or I could choose to die. I chose to live.”

“Weren’t you scared? Did you lose consciousness?” I asked. Jerry continued, “…the paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read ‘he’s a dead man.’

I knew I needed to take action.” “ What did you do?” I asked. “Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me,” said Jerry. “She asked if I was allergic to anything. ‘Yes,’ I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, ‘Bullets!’ Over their laughter, I told them, ‘I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.’”

Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, is everything.

ImageTRUEHOPE & Empowerplus: A story of hope stems from a bipolar disorder & the suicide of Anthony’s wife. His wife’s father had done the same thing 16 years previously. A year later two of Anthony’s children were diagnosed with Bipolar I (the most severe form of the illness). Anthony, in desperation prayed for an answer and direction to save his children from such a tragic fate. One direction after another led him to a biological scientist & doctors who helped him create a product that has helped not only his children, but hundreds of others who have suffered from this terrible disease. Out of darkness, sprang light.

ImageKeep On:  When Colonel Harland Sanders retired at the age of 65, he had little to show for himself, except an old Caddie roadster, a $105 monthly pension check, and a recipe for chicken. Knowing he couldn’t live on his pension, he took his chicken recipe in hand, got behind the wheel of his van, and set out to make his fortune. His first plan was to sell his chicken recipe to restaurant owners, who would in turn give him a residual for every piece of chicken they sold–5 cents per chicken. The first restaurateur he called on turned him down.  So did the second. So did the third.

In fact, the first 1008 sales calls Colonel Sanders made ended in rejection. Still, he continued to call on owners as he traveled across the USA, sleeping in his car to save money. Prospect number 1009 gave him his first “yes.”

After two years of making daily sales he had signed up a total of five restaurants. Still the Colonel pressed on, knowing that he had a great chicken recipe and that someday the idea would catch on. Of course, you know how the story ends. The idea DID catch on. By 1963 the Colonel had 600 restaurants across the country selling his secret recipe of Kentucky Fried Chicken (with 11 herbs and spices). In 1964 he was bought out by future Kentucky governor John Brown. Even though the sale made him a multi-millionaire, he continued to represent and promote KFC until his death in 1990.

Colonel Sanders’ story teaches an important lesson: its never too late to decide to never give up. In desperation, keep on.

Earlier in his life the Colonel was involved in other business ventures–but they weren’t successful. He had a gas station in the 30’s, a restaurant in the 40’s, and he gave up on both of them. At the age of 65, however, Harland Sanders decided his chicken idea was the right idea, and he refused to give up, even in spite of repeated rejection.  He knew that if he kept on knocking on doors, eventually someone would say “yes.”

Well, I hope these stories shine brightly within your heart & make a small difference in your day. In any transition you are experiencing you can look for the moments of darkness & seek the light from a distant star to give you hope.

Peace to you today. -Heather

Happy SOUL Day!

Image“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”  -Howard Thurman, Meditations of the Heart

You are the only you in this world. This quote speaks volumes to my heart because there is something only YOU can do, so when you find that ‘something that lights you up’—follow it, begin to know every detail of why it breathes energy into your existence, see what it is that makes you come alive. Once you find something like that…you can never let go or fear your own personal betrayal to yourself and the world.

“There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls.”  -Howard Thurman

I heard a beautiful metaphor yesterday about taking ideas and philosophy from all areas of life, the variety of people and religions we encounter, the beauty we see, the emotions we feel and metaphorically stringing them all together into a string of beads that symbolize the meaning of your life. So, as I read the above quote I instantly saw a visual of putting beads on a string, so I envisioned the end of this quote as allowing other people to string the beads of your life. Although, after reading it again, I understood it as being a puppet on a string. I am going to envision it like this…I will be stringing the lessons and beauty within my own life to my soul chain, instead of allowing others to pepper my life chain with what they think I need.

IMAGINE…taking a little bit of wisdom from EVERYWHERE, EVERYTHING…the wisdom of the Tao, embracing a story from Buddhism, understanding some of the beliefs of Desmond Tutu, feeling your heart sing to the teachings of Marianne Williamson, enjoying a Soul Pancake, loving the Inspiration of Dr. Wayne Dyer, adding Louise Hays movie to your collection, learning a new prayer every day, seeking guidance in the lessons nature has to offer, raising your children in a variety of beliefs, getting grateful with Sarah Ban Breathnach, and looking for the good in all things each day.

String all those beautiful things as beads on your own soul chain & imagine the beauty your soul will seek throughout your life. See, explore, be open to so many beautiful things.

ImageA Inspired idea for the HAPPY SOUL: Find something that you can literally add beads to: key chain, piece of leather, chain, necklace, bracelet, phone charm, something to hang from your car mirror, etc. Go to a craft store and find some beads that may symbolize something for your life (charms, beads that have a particular color, pattern, texture, etc).  Decide what you would like to focus on at this point in your life. Do you want to find someone to love–maybe find a red bead that can symbolize the love you desire to have. Maybe you want to find more spirit within your life—maybe you are drawn to a bird charm, a white pearl bead, a peace sign, etc. Maybe you want to focus on your kids more each day—find something playful that symbolizes your family. Begin to string these beads to create a symbolic soul chain for your life, your daily reminder of what you would like to focus your attention on. Put it somewhere to look at each day & look at each one with a prayer in your heart to put more attention on the specific areas.

-Happy Soul Day!

Have a little FAITH in Me.

Image“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy amidst the simple beauty of nature…I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles.”  -Anne Frank

It always amazes me when you sit outside and notice the tiny details all around.

A couple days ago I noticed in my Maple tree hundreds of lady bug casings. At first my heart sank as I thought these little bugs had gotten stuck in the sap and perished. Then I looked closer, on other leaves there were little black and red, fuzzy-like caterpillars. I had my husband come to see if he could understand what was happening—was it a tree of transformation?? We googled the lifecycle of a ladybug and sure enough…We have a ladybug tree!! Thousands of eggs gently laid on the large Maple tree leaves. You can see the life stages throughout the tree. Miraculous!!

Just like transformation–Life changes can be hard. My husband is still going through the process of job jumping and it is not getting any easier. It is hard to see him frustrated by how long things take, how many interviews need to be done, the assessments, the call backs…

But then I see these details in nature and I am quickly reminded—everything has a perfect timing, everything grows and changes, the flow of all that is—is perfect. Nothing is left undone or forgotten. There is patience in growth. There is wisdom in waiting. There is challenge and struggle in all things. There is hope held within a new day.

If we can continue to remember this— everything happens with PURPOSE. everything moves in perfect TIMING. everything is given with GROWTH in mind. everything grows in OPPORTUNITY. everything is clear and clarity is given within the PRESENT of this moment. SEEK. LISTEN. FIND the ANSWERS within. We will begin to understand ALL is as it should be right NOW.

God just wants us to stop and seek Him. He wants us to move from doing to be open to seeking His guidance. He knows what is best for our life. He is just waiting for us to trust in Him and His guidance.

Everything around us is being done, the sun rises, the flowers bloom, the streams flow, the wind blows, the moon appears. When we are willing to stop trying to do everything on our own and have the faith that He is listening and waiting patiently to help us do anything and everything.

We must try to have a little FAITH in that!!

This reminds me of a beautiful song “Have a little faith in me.” I am going to put a couple links to a couple video clips of people singing this song. These two versions were my favorites. Just close your eyes and listen to the words.  It correlates to having faith in someone else–whether it is someone you love or I also like to think that it is having faith in God & knowing he is there through the good, the bad, the dark…etc.

This is a great version by Charly Luske

Here is another version + video of Mandy Moore singing the same song

Well, that is my thought for today. I hope it helps you in anything and everything you do.  Best wishes for a beautiful day.  -Heather

Wisdom from my favorite podcast teachers

Image

“There is a voice inside of you that whispers all day long, “I feel this is right for me, I know that this is wrong.” No teacher, preacher, parent, friend or wise man can decide What’s right for you—just listen to the voice that speaks inside.”  -Shel Silverstein

Much of my life I have spent searching for what spiritually felt right for me, the voice inside that spoke my needed truth. I spent many years debating others views, fighting words that were said, feeling hurt and alone. It was when I began to listen within for what was right for me that many doors opened to teachers that I needed in my life.  Many of the following people left imprints within my heart. They shared a thought that sang to my soul, they sparked something that lit me up, they were the spiritual & self-improvement mentors that I have gained much guidance from. I wanted to share some of these amazing people with you–they hold depths of wisdom and light. I am still finding more every day….but that is what life is about…a true journey for the soul.

John Kabat-Zinn, a great teacher, author of Mindfulness, Professor of Medicine & Director of the Stress Reduction Clinic & the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine

He shares a beautiful metaphor for meditation—he says it is like the ocean, the ocean has waves, a current, just like your mind has chatter. It is when you are able to get below the surface that there is calm.

“Perhaps ultimately, spiritual simply means experiencing wholeness and interconnectedness directly, a seeing that individuality and the totality are interwoven, that nothing is separate or extraneous. If you see in this way, then everything becomes spiritual in its deepest sense.” -John Kabat-Zinn

Elizabeth Lesser, Author and cofounder of the Omega Institute

Image“How strange that the nature of life is change, yet the nature of human beings is to resist change. And how ironic that the difficult times we fear might ruin us are the very ones that can break us open and help us blossom into who we were meant to be.”  -Elizabeth Lesser

“If we can stay awake when our lives are changing, secrets will be revealed to us–secrets about ourselves, about the nature of life, and about the eternal source of happiness and peace that is always available, always renewable, already within us.”  -Elizabeth Lesser

“Stop acting as if life is a rehearsal. Live this day as if it were your last. The past is over and gone. The future is not guaranteed.”  -Dr. Wayne Dyer

“Emotion only lasts in our bodies for about 90 seconds. After that, the physical reaction dissipates, UNLESS our cognitive brain kicks in and starts connecting our anger with past events.”  -Jill Bolte Taylor [This can be around any emotion. So what she is saying is your emotion of anger…can only last for 90 seconds and then its gone UNLESS we re-trigger it by thinking about things or events over and over—something to seriously think about]

I would highly suggest watching her interview with Oprah on Youtube–amazing story.

Marianne Williamson, spiritual teacher, author and lecturer.

ImageOne of my favorite quotes of all time. [I am sure it is loved by many of you.]

“Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognize how good things really are.”  -Marianne Williamson

“Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we have learned here.” -Marianne Williamson

Well, that is all for today. I will share some other great teachers another day. I hope these thoughts will open a door for you to learn a little more about these amazing people. Maybe they will crack open a needed change within your heart, maybe they will guide you to the possibility within. The lessons are endless and ongoing, the teachers are gifts delivered in a daily podcast. Enjoy every moment. Learn every day & Find Happiness in everything you do!!  -Heather

Fyi–you can hear most of these people on Oprah’s spiritual podcast shows. They are great to listen to while you are out walking, driving, just need to be inspired. There is always so much to learn.

Trust in your life’s natural FLOW

Image

“Flow with whatever may happen and let your mind be free. Stay centered by accepting whatever you are doing. That is the ultimate.”  -Chuang Tzu

I just got back from a walk, the weather was rain when I started, so I began it with a attitude of enjoying the rain. While I was walking a woman approached me who was just starting on her walk, she asked me, “Is it getting better or worse?” I smiled, “it comes and goes, you just need to embrace it and enjoy the fresh smell of the beautiful rain.” She hurried on. I literally stopped and felt how this moment was like life, we have to enjoy the flow, whatever may come.

On my way back I pondered about my husband and how hard it has been on him mentally to begin again, to look for a job. I began to pray for my little family, knowing that God knows what is best for us. He knows what flow will be the right current that will take us to where we need to be. I continued to pray for His guidance, to help us allow what we need into our life.

Sometimes it is very hard to remember that he has a plan for everything. That there are not coincidences, only moments of grace. That he can guide, direct, change everything in a moment. That is where our faith needs to step in, to allow, to listen, to look for His direction.

We read this beautiful story before bed last night—it is amazing. It illustrates this whole idea beautifully. Enjoy.

The Tablecloth by Richard Bauman, from Chicken Soup for the Christian Family Soul

A young minister had been called to serve at an old church that at one time had been a magnificent edifice in a wealthy part of town. Now the area was in a state of decline and the church was in bad shape. Nevertheless, the pastor and his wife were thrilled with the church and believed they could restore it to its former magnificence.

When the minister took charge of the church early in October 1948, he and his wife immediately went to work painting, repairing and attempting to restore it. Their goal was to have the old edifice looking its best for Christmas Eve services.

Just two days before Christmas, however, a storm swept through the area, dumping more than an inch of rain. The roof of the old church spring a leak just behind the altar. The plaster soaked up the water as if it were a sponge and then crumbled, leaving a gaping hole in the wall.

Dejected, the pastor and his wife looked at the defaced wall. There was obviously no chance to repair the damage before Christmas. Nearly three months of hard work had been washed away. Yet the young couple accepted the damage as God’s will and set about cleaning up the damp debris.

It was a depressed minister and his wife who attended a benefit auction for the church youth group that afternoon. One of the items put up for bid was an old gold and ivory colored lace tablecloth, nearly fifteen feet long.

Seized with an inspiration, the pastor was the high bidder at $6.50. His idea was to hang the tablecloth behind the altar to cover the ragged hole in the wall.

On the day before Christmas, snowflakes mingled with the howling wind. As the pastor unlocked the church doors, he noticed an older woman standing at the nearby bus stop. He knew the bus wouldn’t be there for at least half an hour, so he invited her inside to keep warm.

She wasn’t from the neighborhood, she explained. She had been in the are to be interviewed for a job as a governess to the children of a well-known wealthy family. She had been a war refugee, her English was poor and she didn’t get the job.

Head bowed in prayer, she sat in the pew near the back of the church. She paid no attention to the pastor, who was hanging the tablecloth across the unsightly hole. When the woman looked up and saw the cloth she rushed to the altar.

“It’s mine!” she exclaimed. “It’s my banquet cloth!”

Excitedly she told the surprised minister its history and even showed him her initials embroidered in one corner.

She and her husband had lived in Vienna, Austria, and had opposed the Nazis before the Second World War. THey decided to flee to Switzerland, but her husband said they must go separately. She left first. Later she heard that he had died in a concentration camp.

Touched by her story, the minister insisted that she take the cloth. She thought about it for a moment but said no, she didn’t need it any longer, and it looked pretty hanging behind the altar. Then she said good-bye and left.

In the candlelight of the Christmas Eve services, the tablecloth looked even more magnificent. The white lace seemed dazzling in the flickering light of the candles, and the golden threads woven through it were like the brilliant rays of a new dawn.

As members of the congregation left the church, they complimented the pastor on the services and on how beautiful the church looked.

One older gentlemen lingered, admiring the tablecloth, and as he was leaving he said to the minister: “It’s strange. Many years ago my wife–God rest her—and I owned such a tablecloth. She used it only on very special occasions. But we lived in Vienna then.”

The night air was freezing, but the goosebumps on the pastor’s skin weren’t caused by the weather. As calmly as he could, he told the man about the woman who had been to the church that very afternoon.

“Can it be,” gasped the old man, tears streaming down his chicks, “that she is alive? How can I find her?”

The pastor remembered the name of the family who had interviewed the woman. With the trembling old man at his side, he telephoned the family and learned her name and address.

In the pastor’s old car they drove to her home on the other side of town. Together they knocked on her apartment door. When she opened it, the pastor witnessed the tearful, joyful and thrilling reunion of husband and wife.

Some people would call it an extremely lucky chance happening, the result of a hole in the church wall, an old tablecloth, a pastor’s ingenuity in solving a problem and so on. But the combination of events was far too complex for it to have merely “coincidence.”

If one link in the fragile chain of events had been broken, the husband and wife might never have found each other. If the rain hadn’t come, if the church roof hadn’t leaked, if the pastor had decided not to go to the auction, if the woman hadn’t been looking for a job or standing on that corner at just the right time…the list of ifs is virtually endless.

It was simply God’s will. And, as it has been said many times, He works in mysterious ways.

I hope you enjoyed this beautiful story. I hope it touched your soul and will set you in a good place for your day. Peace, Love and Joy to you.  -Heather
